Autumn Baby

Hi, welcome.  Crafting crazy at the moment.  Maybe it's the sunny weather.  Maybe it's that end of the month feeling.  Maybe it's the crafty goodies that came with Mr Postman today.  Hee hee.   Yep, probably the crafty goodies.    So I wanted to make a baby card.  I made a pink baby card last week so I decided to make one using autumn colours, it being Autumn and all.......

I based my design on Stephanie's card at SSS.  I cut my aperture with Crafts-Too Frames 7 die.  I've used orange mulberry paper and patterned paper from Prima Forever Young and Basic Grey Serenade.  The baby was cut using Sizzix Baby with Bottle die and paper pieced.  I used glossy accents on the bottle.  The flourishes are metal embellishments from Korthobby and the lovely leaves are from Storyteller.  I die cut the letters using Sizzix Ida Lou's Flowerbox alphabet.

Suposedly She Has a Heart of Gold...

... although it might take an autopsy to find it.  Hello and welcome.  What a great line that was.  Heard it last night in a TV series about midwives in London in the 1940's.  Think it's called Life in the East End.  Although I could be wrong.   I just remembered as I was gold leafing my heart.  Over at WOW they gave the challenge theme this month as decadence.  Gosh, that's a tricky one.  It was one of those dictionary moments when you come away more confused than when you started.  So I'm going with my own impressions which are opulence and excess typified by the colours red, gold and black.

This was so difficult to get a photo of.  How do they photograph the crown jewels??   This was my first attempt at gold leafing.  I used the flakes rather than a sheet so they were a bit crumpled and gave a nice texture.  I leafed a leaf from Tando Creatives Leaf Pack A and used it as a heart.  I stamped a red deckle edge panel with Hampton Arts I Love Thee stamp and embossed with black embossing powder.  Lots of different love lines.  I embossed the edge with gold powder and mounted it on a black card.  Then my lovely golden heart.  If that isn't decadence then I'll eat my rabbit.   I think this will be a lovely Golden Wedding card.  Would anyone believe it's real gold leaf on a card?  Maybe I should just frame it as a tribute to excess.

Retro? Think so.....

Greetings and welcome.    The sun is shinning, the birds are tweeting, the bees are buzzing.  Even saw a butterfly.  Basically a beautiful day.  A day to be out weeding, not crafting, but I got seriously side tracked last evening when I followed a link to Wicked Wednesday ATC Challenge.  I love ATC's.  It's amazing what you can pack onto a small art space.  I haven't made any for a while but since I have decided....  ooh that's a secret til next Wednesday.  Anyway, the thing is the theme was retro/vintage and the medium was ATC so I dropped the other things I was working on, some got incorporated into totally new projects.  This is going to be a bit of a post cos I went a into overdrive and I'm putting it all here in a mega gigantic fun filled ATC post.  Please feel free to just look at the pictures......

I started with Art IMpressions Dancers stamp.  Love those girlfriends.  I bought this stamp last week and decided to have a go at colouring.  I'm not so good at that but practice makes perfect and these stamps come with a nice colour image to help you out.  Anyway, I was pleased with my colouring but then was having difficulty fitting it to a card.  This is a big stamp, about 14cm across.  These girls need room!  Anyway, then I thought if I cut that one off I can move her....   The end result was I cut up the whole image and had my 4 girlfriend separate with just the occasional missing limb!!!!  Anyway a bit of masking, cutting and piecing and they were whole again.  This is where the ATC challenge made me decide that instead of putting them on a roof (don't ask!) I would make a group of ATC's.

I cut my ATC's from black glitter card using my sizzix ATC and corner die.  The corners are gold mirror card.  Those ladies shine against that classy black glitter.  The phrase is one I had seen around.  Actually I discovered today Art Impressions do a stamp with a longer but similar phrase.  Must get hold of that cos it would be a lot easier.  I used the computer and word.   I don't envision these girls staying together so the fact that the phrase is the same won't make no mind.

My girlfriends are joining the fun at

But are they retro?  I don't know.  Those girls are almost certainly Vintage ha ha.   Anyway they were just a by the way.  I think of retro as bright colours, circles, lines and simple images so I decided to make an ATC using Salty Ocean, Barn Door and Mowed Lawn Distress ink.  I masked an ATC to apply the colour in stripes.  I liked it so much I forgot to take a picture.  In the groove now.  I decided to make a set of three and try and line up my stripes.

I've added a Christmas tree diecut from the Sizzix Snowman set and stamped with the corresponding Hero Arts stamp.  Retro?  I think so.  I hope so.

My Christmas Tree ATC's are joining the fun at

So, are you are still with me?  The first ATC I made which isn't part of the above set I decided to make into a card so I mounted it on a green marble card I found.

Small and cute.  Honest, that card is green but it's quite pale in the picture.

Buttons and Tags

Hello and welcome.  A lovely sunny day today.   Luckily I completed most of this project last night.  Over at PaperArtsy Liz Borer made a lovely doll with a button book.  The doll is a bit beyond my available time at the moment but definitely something to remember.  She is lovely.  So I thought I'd have a go at the shrink plastic buttons.  I didn't have any of the stamps Liz used so I looked thru my PaperArtsy stash and.....

I cut some circles of shrink plastic, stamped with the flower from USNT4 and coloured it.   My first attempt was a bit wiggly, the one on the right, but then I thought I got it!!  I am using clear shrink plastic so I painted the backs with white acrylic.

Such fun.  I also made a set using the moth from SIEN10F and coloured the backs with gold acrylic.  I made button cards using a Crafty Individuals stamp and coloured with distress ink.  Then I decided to make some using the girl from the Bloom stamp set

I used archival ink on my shrink plastic and it bled.  Not a problem on simple lines but these were a bit more detailed so they came out a bit darker than I was hoping for.  What ink did you use Liz?  Anybody have any suggestions.

I thought it would be fun to mount these on cards with the full size stamp on it.  The one on the right is a bit pale in her face.  Don't know why.  Maybe she's getting ready for Halloween.

I decided to make my button cards into tags.

Snow Business

Hello.  Welcome.  A special hello to Natty and Janet who have recently joined our jolly following.  Another grey wet day here in Norway.  Hope the sun has been shining for you.  Today is official the first day of Autumn.  Here's to pretty colours, crisp, sunny days and piles of leaves you can crunch your way through.  The crazy season draws ever nearer and I have a set of Christmas cards to share with you this evening.  I really wanted to try stamping on metal and am very pleased with the result.

I have used sizzix Snowman set which is a set of framelits and matching Hero Art's stamps.  I stamped the snowman, coloured his scarf and hat blue and cut him out with the matching die.  The blue metal was stamped with the various snowflake stamps in the snowman set and embossed with pale blue embossing powder.  Then I used my sizzix ATC die to cut out 4 pieces.  I stamped the white card using the snowflake dies and VersaMagic Aegean Blue chalk ink.  I layered the three pieces and voilĂ .......

Presently Taggy

Greetings and welcome.  Just making a couple of quick tags.  Starting to like this CAS style, once you get the hang of it.  Keeping it clean and keeping it simple.  Two not so easy things.

Inspired by Joanne to make a couple of birthday tags.  A him and a her variation.  I've used PaperArtsy #7 tags, Archie, SM30, the girl from the Bloom set and the sentiment is from SIDD5.  Colour supplied by Limelight and Inky Pool.  I suppose the fibers aren't very CAS but got to have a tie on my tag.  Oh, just realised I forgot the splats.  Since I don't have that stamp and I am resisting, resist, resist, the temptation to do some seriously distressed edges I think I will call them finished.

Sweet Pixie

Hello and welcome.  Where do the days go?  Whiz whiz, another one gone, another week, soon another month.  Is it me or does time go faster the older you get?  I'm not sure that's covered in Einstein's Theory of Relativity.  Although I did read today is that birthdays are good for you.  Statistics have shown that the more birthdays you have the longer you live.  Ha.  Ha ha.  Ha ha ha.........

Here's a little something I have been working on.  I needed a baby card and over at Cheery Lynn the challenge is Things with Wings so I decided to use CLD gorgeous Pixie Guardian die.

Nearly all the papers are Docrafts Born to Shop Bubbles pad.  The dies are Cheery Lynn Pixie Guardian and Mini Dimensional Butterflies.  The flowers are sizzix Flowers and Vines #3 and sizzlit Flower w/ Stem and Leaves.  The sentiment was from a pre-printed sheet I got in a magazine.

Fiesta......

Hello and welcome.  I am having a crafty and inspired week.  Hope the mojo is visiting with you as well.  I think maybe the Autumn is keeping folk indoors.  There's so much great craft out there.  I'm spending a lot of time checking it out.  Great challenges, great hops, great challengees.  Is that a word?  What is the word for those of us partaking in the challenges??  Cos you are wowing me with your awesomeness.  There aren't enough hours in the day to check it all out and comment but I hope you have caught a bit of love from me.  If not, I should complain to the management.  Oh, I suppose that's me.  A DT of one.  I am my own DT.  Wow, that's something to think about.  Anyway, with all the crafty greatness happening I am so glad you have taken time to visit and if you also have time to leave a little love you will brighten my day.  Thanks.

To PaperArtsy we shall go where this week Joanne Wardle has been showing off her CAS style.  I think it might have been a bit of a shock after all the paint and layers we are used to over at PaperArtsy but between you, me and craftimamma it's not as easy as it looks.  Anyway, I'm inspired to try Joanne's third project and make some little sweety bags for the trick or treaters.

I started by stamping these three party animals from PA USFD3 many times onto white card.  Then I added a splash of Limelight.

I made a stamped background as per Joanne's instructions.  Loved the tip to start with the big stamps and then fill in with the little ones.  It's faster than trying to patchwork as you go along.  All PaperArtsy stamps from ASI2, LPC001, USNT4, and SM12.  I love this.  It's fab.  Then, woe is me, it went a bit wrong.

Yep, it's really obvious isn't it and shows me to be a Fresco Finish Paints novice.  I started with the lovely translucent Limelight.  Wonderful.  Then I went Pansy!!  Great colour but opaque!  Just like it says on the tin.  Oh, parsnip, or words to that effect.  Reach for the Inky Pool cos you know that's translucent.  And ignore the mistake and move on, cos we know it won't matter to the finished project but for those who prefer wisdom to experience, check the label.  It clearly says and shows the opacity of these lovely paints.  Take a tip from me.  It does what it says on the label......

So I followed instructions, cut everything up, glued everything together, filled my little baggies with sweeties and wow.  Great, they stand up all by themselves.  As Joanne said, great party favours.

A view from the side

A close up of some lovely background stamping.  That ugly streak is safely glued where it won't be seen

What happy chappies they are.

Love is Coffee and Cake

Hello and welcome.  So glad you could join me in my little crafty space.  Another yukky day and it seems that autumn is here to stay.  Although it's weird.  I posted a few days ago that overnight big piles of leaves had fallen but there don't appear to have been many additions and looking around the trees are quite green still.  Maybe those were just the early fallers.  I know if it was me I'd be the last leaf on the tree.

I have been playing with an idea for a card for the LOTV challenge where this month it's ribbons and lace.  I fussy cut the LOTV image I wanted to use from the True Love Art Pad.  A boy and a girl on a swing.  I thought it would be nice if I had an arch I could hang the swing from.

I started with an inky background with Distress and VersaMagic inks and cut an aperture using Sizzix Vintage Cabinet die.  I decided to use both the positive and the negative cuts but wanted a line of distinction so I distressed the edge of both sides of the aperture.  This left me with a white distressed edge which I was going to ink but decided it looked good as was.

This picture looks very flat but it's actually very dimensional.  The swing ropes are attached behind the background and I mounted the swing on foam pads.  I used 3mm on the kids feet to the swing and then used 2mm on the kids bodies.  I distressed the edge of the background and coloured with VersaMagic Gingerbread.  Then I mounted it on a kraft card with a distressed edge coloured with VersaMagic Jumbo Java.  I've nicknamed this combination coffee and cake.  Just so you know.

Hoo Who

Hello.  Welcome.  Thank you for taking the time to visit.  Won't keep you long.   Just a quick ATC.  I love PaperArtsy metal card, a layer of metal bonded to card.  It embosses beautifully.

I cut my ATC using Sizzix ATC die and embossed with Sizzix embossing folder.  Then I coloured with Raisin, Slate and Bottle alcohol inks.  The stamp is Crafty Individuals Airmail Owl.  I fussy cut the owl and the word OWL.  I have used a piece of pine bark and mounted the owl on foam pads.  So there he sits, waiting for pumpkins maybe.

Faster Than a Speeding Wotnot

Greetings.  Welcome.  Me again!  I'm trying to get in fast over at PaperArtsy.  Not because the link is closing but because it just opened and Joanne has been sharing a fab CAS project and since I am in that groove.......

Joanne went Halloween.  I love those stamps but since I don't have them so I used a phrase and an image from PaperArtsy USNT4.  I stamped with Versamagic Eggplant.  Added a splash of PaperArtsy Pansy and glittered my dragonfly with my Violet Wink of Stella Brush.  Instant glitter.  No mess.  Mine came from Altered Pages

A Little CAS

Greetings.  Welcome.  Have you had a grey and generally yukky day?  I hope not but here it felt more like November today.  I did try and do a bit out in the garden but just wasn't inspired and once I got wet I decided that I'd done enough and it was time to craft......

I decided to make some tape using masking tape.  I used various inks, Distress, VersaMagic, Memento.  Stamps from Crafty Individuals, Lawn Fawn and unknown others.

I've used a cream card base and blended some DI.  The keen ones amongst you will note the uneven top here verses the straight one in the next picture.  That's because I'm messy!!  I had to redo the whole thing when I didn't check my stamps hadn't picked up extra ink around the edge!!  So on the next attempt I decided I wanted a straight line.

I had stamped the bird pair but they seemed to be just hanging there and then I saw this card by Laurie and decided to try and add a sentiment to take the line across the card.  Pleased, except for that silly little heart I thought would be cute to join the two words!! I told you I can't draw.......

The Leaves are Falling

Hello and welcome.  Gosh, what a difference a day make.  24 little hours.  Is that a song?  Anyway got up this morning to find piles of yellow leaves on the ground.  There's been a few fluttering around the last few days and we have kind of noticed perhaps a few yellow specks in the trees but suddenly you can't avoid the fact that Autumn is coming.  I don't want to admit it's here.  Although why not?  It's a wonderful time.  Still picking a variety of fruit and vegetables.  The pumpkins are looking good and there's the harvest party still a month away.  Any excuse for a party I say.......

Quite a few challenges out there looking for autumn colours and over at Cheery Lynn it's all about texture.  Now CLD have a big range of embossing plates but unfortunately I don't have any... yet.  Got my eye on a few beauties.  So I decided to make my own textured background using CLD Dreamcatcher #2 die

I cut lots of the dreamcatcher die from fairly thick card and then stuck the feathers on a piece of white card.  Then I added a couple of layers of crumpled tissue paper.

Then I coloured some more tissue with various red, yellow and orange DI's, ripped it up and stuck it down.  Hope you can see the texture of my autumn leaf background ;-))  It looks really fab in the real.

I cut a fancy frame using Crafts-Too Frames 9.  The words are bubble stickers.  I used the dreamcatchers in the corners, embossed and attached with leaf brads and some butterflies cut with CLD Mini Dimensional Butterflies die.  There's a little bird on a twig as well, cos over at Joan's Garden part of the recipe was a tree or bird.  So there he sits.

Whose Driving that Neuron??

Good evening blog followers and friends.  Hope the week has been and the weekend will be better.  Do you ever get stuck?  Or think it maybe needs a bit more?  I've been working on a little something.  Over at PaperArtsy Alison Bomber has been sharing some ideas and I've been playing with some of the techniques.

I started with a piece of PA heavy grey board #9 tag size.  I coloured the greyboard with PA Fresco Pea Coat and Inky Pool and then blended with some watered white.  I stamped the Time phrase from PA SIDD1 onto tissue using ColourBox Chalk Arctic Deep.  These are very juicy pads and I found the first impression bled but I could stamp two more times before re-inking and this gave a nice variation in the appearence of the type.  I stuck down a piece of the tissue and then went over the top with the watered down white again.  It was a bit wet so some of the tissue lifted and I thought that it was good so I distressed a bit more at the bottom and that hole.

......and then the guy in charge of the brain cell says right take your Inky Pool and your Tando Ink Splats mask and your spatulaar, no really he says it like that, spatulaar,  and spread it over and then when you take off the mask you have a err... big.. blobby.. splat .. which actually has some nice feathery features and well, you can't take it off now so why not emboss and see and wow, look at those thick bits bubble, nice colour, nice ferny bits, look at that texture.  Now it needs a bit of balance.

Really like the ferny effect.  I've used that with glass painting all you need is the paint and a couple of sheets of glass, in this case acrylic blocks.  Put em together, pull em apart and stamp, emboss, stamp, emboss.   OK.  You know I really liked that background.  It appears destined to be destroyed.

I've added some more stamping from PA MN16.  Starting to think this may be a fall of Rome tag......

I decided I needed to distress the edge.  Don't try this at home!!  I forgot I was working on 2mm grey board instead of a card tag!  The brain cell obviously hasn't recovered from the earlier mistake with the paint.   Distressing the edge of grey board produces lots of fluffy dust which I am sure is not good for the lungs and it makes a mess.  If you decide to try I suggest outdoors and maybe a dust mask.  Also get hold of a dremel.  I used my trusty distressing tool, a craft knife, but it was a bit of work.  I liked the effect though.  I coloured the edge with VersaMagic Gingerbread and Jumbo Jave, ummm, coffee and cake....  Then I stamped the small bubble from SM12 in Gingerbread.

I like it but maybe it needs a little something.  I have been looking at various little somethings for a while now and none seems to fit so I'm going to leave it as is for now.  I love the embossing on the fresco paints.  Excellent new technique.  Thanks Alison.

UPDATE!  I had a dream!!  It involved long stamps but the final solution was not what I was expecting, but I like it.  And nothing at all to do with the fall of Rome!!  Please let me know if you prefer the before of after.  Using stamps from PA Bloom.

Quick and Blue

Evening blog friends, welcome to my little corner of crafty happiness.  I have finally discovered a technique that's quick!  Joy and happy dance.  In fact I had my central image so fast it was a bit of an OH! moment.  Sometimes we need something quick and although I have kept this ultra simple I am quite pleased.  She looks a bit ghostly but it does have a certain something about it..........

I have been wanting to try the emboss resist technique for a while and when I saw it on SSS the other day I thought now I'm going to give it a go.  Originally I was going to use a few colours but once I started applying DI Salty Ocean over the embossed image I kinda got carried away.  She looks a bit like an old negative.  The stamps are PaperArtsy Winter Wonderland Plate 6 and the sentiment is from PA Bloom set.  I used white Stampendous emboss powder and mounted on a blue linen embossed foil card from Craft Creations.

Penguinauts

Good evening blog friends and followers.  I hope that everything is right in your world.  It's Sunday.  I've done a bit of this and a bit of that, not as much as I had hoped, rarely ever as much as I hope.  We get there eventually, slowly but surely.  Take time to smell the roses and look at the clouds.  You never know what you may see.  I have been having a bit of a tidy in the Room of Craft.  I knew it was past time when I had to relocate to a totally different space as pushing the contents of the desk to the left or the right was no longer an option.  I was inspired by the arrival of a package from Crafty Individuals.  As well as containing the gorgeous stamp I used on this project it also contained two sheets of desperately needed foam mount.  OK, get all that unmounted rubber sorted out and organised.  I also thought of a cheep and cheerful storage for the contents of the desk, and dare I say?? the floor!!   Yep, it was getting bad but now it's getting better.  I might share my storage solutions at a later date because it's always interesting to see how people cope with the ever expanding stash.  Sometimes I wish I lived in the TARDIS.........

I'm going to take a hint from Izzy and call my happy accident a tip.  Hee hee.....  Anyway, for reasons I don't rightly recall I decided to take my sheet of Architexture metal and stick it to the card it came with using my most favourite all purpose UHU adhesive.  This is the original in the yellow metal tube with the distinctive odour.  The one that takes the coating off of my gold mirror card!  My sheet metal was purple on one side and silver on the other.  I stuck the purple side down!  That was the other day.  Today I found it again and decided to use it but noticed that the corner wasn't stuck.  So I pulled!!  And the two pieces seperated.  Disaster!!  but no....  Maybe we call this a TIP...

It looks really cool.  No glue residue just this great contrast.  The paler areas are like the purple side of gunmetal colour

This is the piece of card which has all the glue residue and also some funky purple areas that almost feel like wax.  A serious candidate for a resist background me thinks.  The metal piece gave me my perfect background for my card.  I wanted to have some mad wild colours but lacking dylusion sprays I had to be content with this.....

I think it looks a bit otherworldly.  The penguins, so fab, are the new Alice Palace stamp from Crafty Individuals called 2 Penguins.  I stamped them, coloured them with PaperArtsy Limelight Fresco paint and then fussy cut them.  They are on foam pad's, standing on a piece of collage paper from Crafty Individuals Travel in Italy Background Paper book.  There's a recycled corrugated card moon/sun/planet which got seriously distressed and then I added various DI inks for a hint of a tint.  I've matted my scene on black paper and then mounted the whole on a purple card.  Sorry it looks a bit blue.  The sentiment is Art Impressions Goofy Things.  Gosh this was fun!!

Hearts and Candy

Greetings blog followers and friends.  I hope you are having a great weekend.  I've been feeling a bit festive today, no idea why but hey, sometimes you just have to go with the flow.  Over at Cheery Lynn the challenge is Hearts a Glow.  Maybe that got me thinking Christmas.  And then there was this lovely paper by Basic Grey that I bought.  I thought it was such lovely autumn colours, only to discover on closer inspection the script was Christmas.   OK, I can go with that.  I decided to make something a bit different and I wanted to try a 3D project so this is it......

I started by cutting 4 Cheery Lynn Love You More hearts from gold mirror card.  Then I drew a heart shape to go with it and fussy cut 4 hearts from Basic Grey Jovial Nice double sided paper.  Love those yellow tones.  I stuck the diecuts onto the hearts and used DI Barn Door to add some extra red inside the diecut.  I scored and folded down the centre line.

I added some lace around two of the hearts and then stuck them together to form a 3D shape.  Before sticking the fourth piece in place I added some red ribbon, folded over at the top for a hanger and I left a tail hanging down so I could attatch something at the bottom.

I made a small bag from red organza and added a couple of silver metal snowman charms from Korthobby.  I have filled my bag with some chocolates.

Here's the whole thing just hanging around.  Quite a nice way to hang the Christmas chocolates or maybe some other little gift.
